[Contrast]
The uppermost white bar above is pure white on the left half and slightly darker (one Windows safe color step below white) on the right half. The white bar in the center is pure white on the left half and slightly more dark (two Windows safe color steps below white) on the right half. This center image is being provided for displays that may have difficulty in distinguishing the very subtle shade differences in the top white bar. Adjust your "Contrast" setting until you can just see the difference. Contrast is most often set to 100%.

The contrast setting adjusts the maximum displayed luminance, thus it is a range control. It is best to always keep this setting at its maximum. Only decrease the contrast setting if the highlights are too bright for your vision. Keep in mind that contrast affects brightness, but brightness does not affect contrast.

[Brightness]
The black bar is pure black on the left half and slightly lighter on the right half. Adjust your "Brightness" setting until you can just see the difference. Brightness is most often set to about 50%. It is suggested that you allow a few minutes for your eyes to readjust and then repeat the steps above.
